Project Oxygen

Okay. Is it your turn? Is it time?
Last month I shared my experiment in unplugging.
(Special thanks to those of you who shared your thoughts with me on that topic. It was great to hear that it encouraged you to think about the message and apply it to your life.)

So, now, let’s talk about you

There are 10 Saturdays left this summer. If you haven’t planned a getaway of any shape or size, the time to do so is now. It can be a weekend. It can be an overnight stay. It just needs to be something. This is not an order, just simply a very strong suggestion. It’s about you. Your sanity, and, if truth be told, for the sake of those who have to deal with you every day. As they say on the airlines when you prepare for takeoff, “Place the oxygen mask on yourself first.”

Last summer, a team member challenged and encouraged me to some purposeful self-care. The point was, I had been taking care of everyone else, but had neglected myself, my house, and my situation. She called it “Project Oxygen” and so I promptly dove into changing my life. Since then, we have tackled my basement (still a work in progress). I have a new kitchen. My meals now come to my door. And, I was ordered to go on vacation (which I finally did last month).

But we’re here to focus on you. What needs to happen in your life? Do you need a housekeeper? How about a bookkeeper? Maybe it’s a workout partner or trainer. Let’s face it—you’re going to spend time and money anyway, so why not invest it wisely? It’s about a bit of return on an investment in you.

Let’s take a look at where your time, energy and resources are going.
When I am asked to speak, many times it is a request to present The Grid. This life management tool, which originally premiered in the first book that I wrote and published in 2009, addresses your time, energy, and resources.

The crux of the matter is this: we all receive 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. It’s a non-negotiable. It’s something you can’t change. And either you are in charge of them, or they are in charge of you.

We all need time away. Time to unplug. Time to recharge, renew and refresh.

As you go about your weekend, I simply ask that you revisit your calendar and give some healthy thought to you…the one running your business, your household, your department or team. Will you have time set aside to make you better? If so, I am very proud of you and you get a big gold star.

If not, then this is your chance to turn the tide, so to speak. Take the moment into your own hands. Find a way to refuel your tank. Then sit back, relax, and get ready to recharge. And send me a note to let me know how it goes!
